Once again, Humphrey Bogart was overlooked for an oscar-noteworthy performance. The old prospector played by Walter Huston is perhaps one of the greatest characters produced by movies in the first half of the 20th century. In fact, Walter Huston won the best supporting actor award for his great performance in the movie and it's only a shame that the director, his son, John Huston did not win for best direction. This movie tells a gremicingly true story of the vile temptations wealth has on a human's soul and psychie. It's a great picture from beginning to end! |
