Tootsie Triumphs!
by Mike (movies profile)
Nov 2, 2007
Tootsie is an absolute joy from start to finish. Dustin Hoffman not only, once again, proves his brilliant talents as an actor, he also shows an excellent flair for comedy as well. As Michael Dorsey, the temperamental actor who struggles to find work, despite protests from his agent, George (the film's director, Sydney Pollack), that "no one will hire you," Hoffman shines. Michael, determined to become employed, disguises himself as Dorothy Michaels and lands the role of a lifetime on a TV soap opera, thus becoming an unexpected smash hit with soap fans and women alike because she refuses to take the verbal abuse and harassment from the men on the soap. Tootsie is a classic for its excellent storytelling and writing (by longtime TV veteran, Larry Gelbart (who wrote the series M*A*S*H)and priceless acting by not only Hoffman, Teri Garr, Charles Durning, George Gaynes, Dabney Coleman, Bill Murray, and Jessica Lange (1982 Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress), to name just a few. In short, Tootsie is an invaluable cinematic comedy that is a definite must-see movie. |
