Robert Redford is Turner, code named "Condor," a CIA employee whom spends his entire working day at a bogus New York address reading and analysing newly published books. Returning from a trip to buy lunch for his colleagues he is shocked to find they have been massacred. In, what he believes to be an endeavour to bring him in by his employers, he escapes an attempt on his life by his supervisor. In his effort to flee his pursuers he abducts Faye Dunaway, a photographer, as she is about to enter her car and takes her prisoner in her apartment whilst he tries to comprehend his predicament.

This is a highly entertaining espionage thriller that will have you looking to see what the Postman is carrying in his bag before you sign for your next parcel. Redford is fine as the non-field agent on the run from a paranoid and corrupt faction within the CIA whom mistakenly believes he knows much more than he does. Cliff Robertson and John Houseman, as senior CIA agents, lend enough shadiness to their roles to keep you guessing as to where their loyalties lye. Max Von Sydow, as the mysterious freelance Hitman, occasions the underlying suspense as his allegiance changes depending upon whom is financing him.

This 1975 film has all the classic traits of a cold war plot but with scenes in and around World Trade Centre and an eerie final conclusion, present day viewers will not find this excellent thriller dated.
