A Good,Underrated Superman Film

Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is,believe it or not,a decent film! Christopher Reeve's anti-nuclear story is well-told and should be remebered, especially today. It's great fun to see all the favorite actors and characters we know and love return, and Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor is always a hoot to watch.Nuclear Man is a decent villain, and people should remember that he is not a long-time DC Comics character;only created for this film, and rather neatly by the way.I also liked Jon Cryer's Lenny (Lex's Nephew) and that he was played as more of a misguided youth than a true villain.
Of course, the movie is not without flaws. The visuals are not as good as they are in previous Superman films, but they are fine for the time.
Also, the Clark/Lois/Lacy Warfield (Mariel Hemingway in a rather annoying role) triangle is rather distracting.Superman/Clark Kent has only one great love, and that's Lois Lane!
Aside from that,Superman IV is a good movie.I have heard that 45 minutes of the film was trimmed, and that some fans are hoping for a Director's cut.I would like to see that, too. It would make what I believe is a good movie even better.Thumbs up! |
