This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its definetly somewhere in my top 20. Superman is the best superhero character, even before this movie came out, but with this movie, Superman is now a two demensional character, not just stuck on a comic book. This movie as of right now is the best superhero movie ever to have been made. Will this be in jeopardy of upcoming movies? My thoughts are no, because I don't think any superhero movie will capture the same magic that this one did. For 1978 this movie has great, great special effects which I still think look better than Spiderman's. With a movie like Spiderman, you can tell with the CGI work that the figure on screen looks fake. I don't get this same feeling when I watch Superman. So basically, less is more when you compare both movies effect wise. Also, Richard Donner deserves a lot of credit, not for directing just this one movie, but directing two at the same time, but was fired during the filming of the second one. So, 75% of the movie Superman II is filmed by Donner instead of Lester, except Lester is given the credit. He and his team had to come up with a way that Superman could fly without looking fake, they pulled this off. The acting in this movie is great and so is the action and Gene Hackman makes the ultimate superhero bad guy. This is a great movie and is much better than Batman, Spiderman or The Hulk. If you want a true superhero movie, watch this one. |
