Unlike most reviewers here, who probably watched this movie in their teens, I was just a new born baby when it was released back in 1984. Today, 20 years on, like most reviewers here I find it to be a truely wonderful movie. Although my age doesn't help me understanding the cult of that era, I still find myself appreciating the excellent acting, the sensational cinematography, and like others mentioned, the purity. It has something that today's Sci-Fi movies cannot touch, something that millions of dollars worth computer affects cannot make up. For one moment it got me thinking was I the baby given by a "starman"? "Define beautiful" says Starman. This, is a beautiful movie.
On a side note, I find the cinematography has a lot in common with my favourite movie, which also comes from that year -- Wim Wender's Paris, Texas. God I love 1984 |
