I believe that the plot of this story is very good. Everything makes sense. In reply to the review about Stand and Deliver being racist, well duh! It's supposed to show the racism of that time and the struggle that the students had to go through in order to achieve their high scores. The movie is about how the students go against the odds and prove all the racist views of Spanish people (that they're stupid and can't go to college) wrong.
My math teacher in middle school showed his class this movie every year. I was in his class two years so I saw it two times. After the first time, I really liked this movie, so I bought the DVD. It inspired me to follow my dream and go for a math major. Getting a passing grade on the AP Calculus exam is really hard, and for all of Mr. Escalante's students to pass, some with perfect scores, is a great achievement.
By the way, the real Mr. Escalante looks almost exactly like my middle school math teacher. Also, I really liked Lou Diamond Phillips in this movie. He's awesome, and he got a perfect score. |
