Kirk Douglas is just better than Russel Crowe, but. Harleton Heston takes the cake in Ben Hur. Back go Kirk Douglas though. The slave revolt is a pilar in the filmatic world. There are so many. Movies based of this including the new Underworld movie which was not good at all. This story of gladiators is not as gory as Gladiator, but it is still better. Sparticus is a total BA but shows his softer and compassionate side when he meets a slave girl whom becomes the love of his life. Sparticus is one of the most obvious Jesus figures of all time. Everything about his is similar to Jesus's story. The ending tops it all off but I will not say anymore you just need to watch it. It is super long, but like Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia it is a motion picture epic. Nothing has come close to these epics in our present society except Lord of the Rings, which on my opinion trumps it. However, it has it's roots in these films. |
