This was a comedy?

I'm sorry, but even though the film had some funny moments, I can't buy this great film as a comedy. The whole story was, in all essence, about men who were watching everything they love and believe in slowly die in front of them and one man's desperation to hold onto his dream, as impossible as it may be, at all costs. This was reality for not only minor league hockey players, who played mostly for teams that had the life expectancy of a picked banana, but for lots of people in the U.S. at the time. The sad message to Slap Shot is that even if you believe enough and are willing to fight to the end for your dream, that doesn't mena it will come true, or even that it should. |
