Good guys vs. bad guys.

I give this movie an A for effort, but overall it fell just short of a great movie. Maybe I've seen too many Westerns. Maybe I had high hopes going into this movie. Maybe I was expecting something different than the typical Western. Okay, so there were minorities that had significant parts in a Western - a little different, but nothing to write home about. A british fellow who's a lawman in the old west - again, nothing to get your knickers in a bunch over. That's what I mean when I say I give them an "A" for effort. The film-makers tried so hard to make this a different kind of Western. The problem is, the plot is so typical of the genre. There are good guys and there are bad guys. The good guys always win, and only enough minor character good guys die in order to set the scene up for vengence. All the bad guys die, except for the minor character bad guys that no one cares about. The setting jumps from one place to another frequently, leaving the viewer asking, "what was the point of that? Was it really neccessary?" The opening scenes are nice, since they are set in winter in the southwest. Snow in the desert? I didn't think so either, growing up in Michigan! |
