Just like the first.... but cheesier.

I suppose it speaks volumes about the first movie the fact that this sequel was pretty much on the same level.
The only returning cast member, besides #5 of course, is Fisher Stevens as Ben Jahrvi (formerly Jabituya). Now Ben is apperantly from India although the first movie made it clear he was an American, and he changed his last name for no particular reason. Hmmm.
The reason behind this is the message contained in this movie about the glories of America, equal rights etc. #5 makes frequent allusions to machines, or at least him, not being a slave. He also decides to read "Frankenstein" and "Pinocchio" slowly rather than rapidly processing them. Finally, he joins Ben in becoming the first robotic American at the end.
All that deeper stuff is really little more than the subtext to this movie, as it's more of the action comedy of the first. Not so funny this time around, but these movies are really very similar.
Verdict: Unless if you worship the original movie, your not really in for a let down by seeing the sequel. More of the same from the #5 camp. |
