Slightly cheesy but fun to watch
by Greg Linsun (movies profile)

It may be a bit of a clone of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial but Short Circuit is a joy to watch. A military group has invested in robotic technology in order to be used as weapons. It works out fine until robot number 5 is struck by lightning which gives him a whole new outlook on life and escapes from the facility. Now the military is on the hunt for number 5 before 5 himself can prove that he is truly now capable of human emotion. Obviously there are quite a few cheesy moments in Short Circuit (ex: changing wirework in other robots to re-enact The Three Stooges) but number 5 is fun to watch. Kids especially will enjoy the unvirsality it has now as number 5 came to inspire future films such as WALL-E. There is also a bit of strong language at points but nothing too terribly bad. Overall, if you have kids Short Circuit may be worth a look but if not eh, maybe some other time. |
