This movie and it's predecessor Yojimbo are among the best films Akira Kurosawa ever made. The direction is excelent and they have just the right mixture of action, comedy, and drama. It's no wonder that they inspired the man-with-no-name trilogy made famous by Clint Eastwood in his 3 films with Sergio Leone (A Fist Full of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad...) If you are a fan of Leone's films, Yojimbo and Sanjuro are a must see. Leone's films are great, but Kurosawa is the master.
