Check in to Room With a View

Merchant/Ivory made a lot of great films, but this is their greatest masterpiece. It is just a breathtakingly beautiful adaptation of E.M. Foster's novel set in Tuscany and the English countryside. The cast is filled with acting legends in peak form, yet it is a young Helena Bonham Carter as Lucy Honeychurch who will forever be the first associated witht his film. Her talent and beauty so made the role her own, to this day, hotel's always give her a room with a view no matter how many drug addicts, prostitutes, or apes she has played since. Why she wasn't even nominated for an Oscar is one of those scandalous omissions even Hollywood insiders can't explain. |
