What if your Nightmares were your safest time?

In this film, Catherine Deneuve's horror comes in three levels... her nightmares, her waking insanity, and her waking reality. It turns out her nightmares are her safest time, because nothing can harm her in her sleep. Her fantasy live is scary... the hands coming out of walls haunted me for years... but her reality is more horrifying then her dreams and fantasies combined! An amazing multi-level work, as has been mentioned, with barely a word of dialog.
Given that, my favorite line is when one of CD's suitor's asks of the clock in a bar, "Is that the correct time?" and the bartender answers, "No."
