Not As Good As "Splendor In The Grass"

I just don't get James Dean. I thought every other main character in this movie was acted out well, except Dean's! I think the girls just went for the looks and the guys for how cool he seemed. He was a boring actor to me! It was a chore to watch him in "Rebel...". I mainly finally got around to watching this because of Natalie Wood. She did an excellent job, but not really believable as a bad girl, but who cares, she was so cute and sweet! She was even better in "Splendor In The Grass", which seemed to be the exact same movie, different title. The late great Jim Backus was a pleasure to watch as he played a serious role this time. He is, of course, more enjoyable in comedy ones, but he did a fabulous job in this picture! Kudos to Sal Mineo, too. Though I do not care for his lifestyle, which got him killed in real life, I will give him credit for this performance. Overall, "Rebel Without A Cause" was good, but, in my opinion, overrated, and not as great as they said it was. One of the top 100 movies of all time? Well, that's debatable. I'd say "Splendor In The Grass" definitely was/is. We miss you Natalie! (Personally, I suspect Christopher Walken having something to do with her death!) And you don't need to report me to Yahoo!, either. I have a right to my conclusion. |
