What do you get if you combine the master of fantasy (Stephen 'Close Encounters' Spielburg) with the master of horror {Tobe 'Texas Chainsaw' Hooper}...a truely classic ghost story.
Poltergeist is perhaps one of the most original horror movies you are ever going to see, as it stands head and shoulders above others in its genre.
The story is in the classic haunted house genre but departs from the norm by presenting the audience with a story that does its best to portray real and ordinary people in extra-ordinary situations.
It starts of Disney-esque and you can be fooled into thinking that you are going to be watching a family drama/comedy. But then the youngest daughter of the family mysteriously vanishes and is revealed to have been kidnapped by vengeful spirits. In the following weeks they get the help of a group of para-psychologists and a psychic while having to pretend to the rest of their neighbours and friends that everything is ok inside their house.
There are very view horror films that can come close to being called original classics. Poltergiest is up there with A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, THE OTHERS , ALIEN and THE 6TH SENSE.
Excellent movie, truly outstanding and A+ all the way.... |
