Poltergeist is one of the few genuinely scary movies out there. Made by Speilberg and the guy who made the original Chainsaw Massacre, this film combines elements of real life, fantasy and all balls out horror, springled with alot of comic and realistic dialoge.

The acting is excellent and the chemestry between the performers is very good and shows through onto the screen, {i heared that this is because the husband and wife in the film are actually married in reality}.

The story is in your typical haunted house genre, but departs from the usual nonsense you commonly see in Hollywood, {so there is no high body count, no one specific bogieman, and no half naked blond bimbos being chased upstares to be graphically screwed then skewed, when they should of been running out of the house}...and its approach seems to be more of a realistic 'how would ur family react in this situation to each other, to their neighbours and to strangers'.

Overall it is the realness of this movie that makes it scary as there is an overall chilling feel to the events in the film, as the family have no choice but to stay in a house of demons for weeks, in order to rescue their daughter, while pretending to the outside world that nothing is wrong.
