Story: 7/10
The original Pink Panther has a decent story that is interesting but at the end of the day is nothing more than your average thief storyline. There are some very funny situations that come from the relationships of the characters however. Nothing too special but entertaining nonetheless.
Acting: 8/10
Peter Sellers does a great job with the airtime he is given, but he is not given enough. The new Pink Panther film revolves around Steve Martin, but Sellers is not even involved in two thirds of this film. His cluelessness is enjoyable, but it really isn't even his film in the first place. Overall his performance was entertaining, but a little overrated considering the cries of "Sellers rolling over in his grave" over Martin's performance in the new movie, which was spectacular.
Enjoyability: 6/10
Yes there are some very funny parts but this film was badly in need of an update. The humor is clearly outdated and is just not very funny for modern audiences. There are some laughs here and there, but there are also long drawn out scenes that seem to have no meaning at all. I watched this movie after watching the new version and I have to say that at times I nearly fell asleep. The clueless inspector idea is a great one for a movie and I am glad the Pink Panther franchise will continue on with Martin, it just seems like this film is outdated and it badly needed a new version.
Overall: B-
If you are thinking about renting this, don't. Go see the new version, it is hilarious and much more enjoyable. If you think this version is funnier, you need to have your head examined. |
