I'm a sellers fan, and this film was made in the time in his career when all his films were failing miserably at the box office (this being one of them), which has made it a cult classic today. Sellers carries the show as usual, with his trademark physical humour. This is a funnier indian character than his doctor in 'the millionairess'. It took a little while to really get going for me, but as it went it got funnier and I enjoyed it by the end. Sellers always had a way of making his characters so believeable which in turn makes them enjoyably likeable and sweet, which is quite obvious in 'the party'. Blake edwards and peter sellers make comedy once more. |
