Healing The Soul

This film marks the apex of Harry Dean Stanton and Natassia Kinski's acting efforts. Not only is the story line haunting- some of the visual effects are stunning while accompanied by Ry Cooder's guitar. Stanton's Travis and Kinski's Jane embody a story that is so universal in love relationships, but with a candor that most of us would rather avoid thinking about...certainly, such an excruciatingly painful loss of love that would leave us wandering through the desert. Stanton's wooing back of Hunter Carson as his estranged, but-now- adopted son, particularly the scene where Stanton gingerly and charmingly follows his son back from school on the other side of the street reveal Harry Dean Stanton as one of the most sensitive and "interior" of American actors today. it is a shame this superb film is so relatively unknown, but that's what goes in a culture so obsessed with garbage. |
