"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is probably the only film who had astonishing performances by all the cast, and also one of the three films that received the five main oscars. A mental institution receievs a new patient that will change things around there, but then finds that the main nurse is more dangerous than the other patients. He finds himself stuck in her claws. The main character of the movie is simply the acting, it's absolutely brilliant. I never saw a movie that had such great acting. Nicholson in his best performance ever , who won an Oscar for best actor in a leading role, his first. Louise Flecther stars as the cold and heartless Nurse Mildred; role that made her won an oscar for best actress in a leading role. The there's William Redfield in a great performance and Mr. Harding and Christopher Lloyd and a young Danny DeVito complete the cast. Milos Forman is the director, and in this film, he won the best director movie, for obvious reasons. He literally GAVE the oscars to Nicholson and Flecther, always focusing the image on them, letting them to take the show. Probably only this one and "Amadeus", were his only films that can have the adjective of masterpieces. The film focuses in the mistreat of patients in mental institutions, and the way the staff use their mental defections to their benefit, not caring about their feelings. Great subject. The only films that approach this subject very deeply, is this one and "Girl Interrupted", and "K-Pax" too. Apart from the oscars above stated, the film was also awarded the oscars for best screenplay and best picture. I really enjoyed this film, and it will stay for me forever. It was this film that made me see how Jack Nicholson is a true genius at acting. The scene where the patients are playing cards, is a classic. Highly recommended.
