marlon brando earned a well-deserved oscar for portraying as 'terry malloy' whose brother is the right hand man of johnny friendly, leader of a street gang.brando also gets involved with the gang and does "favours" for johnny.but things start to change when he meets edie doyle(marie saint) whose brother gets killed by the mob for confessing to the police about their dangerous work.brando then realises his mistakes and battles against johnny to end his evil ways.
This movie secured brando's place in the film industry as he brought a revolutionary change in film acting.Who could forget the scene when marlon's brother sticks the gun and tells terry to make a decesion before reaching the 437th street and the dissapointed brother tells him how he could have been a "contender" or somebody if it wasn't for him.I highly recommend this movie to brando fans.one of his best movies.Right next to "the Godfather". |
