I saw this film many times, and I was touched by Streisand's performance.Claudia Draper, a hooker, is accused of murder, and all medical professionals want to know "Why"? Aaron Levinsky,(Dreyfuss) is her attorney who suddenly understands what she is going through;
Maureen Stapleton plays Rose,her mom who seems blind to what her daughter experienced in "childhood".I was angry at Arthur(Malden).It appears, that Incest is a touchy topic that must be out in the open. Claudia defends her actions, and has reason to hate her parents.
Arthur is the stepfather she thought she could welcome in the Family. Apparently, we find that he was molesting her until she was in her mid-teens. Claudia is angry with her mother, for allowing it to continue on.
There was a childrens' program, that had an interesting truth to its title. I do believe that "Kids are People, too" as the name implied.
We do feel that they are helpless and innocent. Yet, they have a voice and must be urged to speak out when violated or hurt in any way; |
