The story that starts off in a graveyard and is probably one of the most well known scenes in horror movie history. Barbara (Judith O'Dea) and her brother Johnny (Russell Streiner) are there to put flowers on what I think was there father's grave I didn't quite get that bit. There's quite a nice little conversation at the start to really introduce her character and give her abit of character rather than just bunging her in there. They bump into a zombie and Johnny is killed and she escapes the zombie to an ababdoned house, were she meets Ben (Duane Jones). Ben with a little help from the scared Barbara, board up the house to stop the zombies entering. They then find out that there are people in the basement, they all must work together to try and find a way out. The acting is good but I did find some of the fight scenes quite humourous as they were blatently fake, but hey this is a low budget 60's film what can you expect. Unlike the re-make the character of Barbara never leaves that shocked state, were as in the re-make she turns into an ass kicking Ripley from Alien sort of character. Judith O'Dea does a good job as the scared if sometimes annoying Barbara. Duane Jones plays the lead role really well, as he is a good choice because you can really believe that it would be that kinda of a man to be strong and take control of that situation. Karl Hardman who plays Harry Cooper in this movie is not such a jackass as he is in the re-make and for abit does actually go along with plans. George Romero's direction of this movie is good, as the camera angles and really dark scenerie really gives you the feeling of confusion and claustrophobia. Overall I found some parts of the movie fall flat, but overally it keeps a quite good pace and is rather enjoyable. It may be just me but this wasn't really as good as it was hyped up to be, but that's just me and it is a cult hit so give it ago.
