Why Did The Story End Up Like This?
by Timothy (movies profile) Dec 15, 2007
Okay, I want to know WHY the story ended up the way it was: How did Pippi Longstocking manage to behave the way she did in this film? Was it associated with the way she was brought up by her family?

I was thinking about the scene where Pippi, Tommy and Annika were in a forest and they took off their clothes and hung them on a bush. They did this because they wanted to go swimming in a river. Later on, a cow came to eat the clothes. This made me giggle, but on the whole it was not as funny as other films I`ve seen. It was then that Pippi, Tommy and Annika were sitting in wooden barrels floating in the river. They were trying to get away from a helicopter because they had previously ran away from the people who were driving the helicopter. In the end, the three kids realized they were in trouble because they were approaching a big waterfall, and they shouted for help and were rescued by the people inside the helicopter. It all seemed SO STRANGE for the kids to run away from someone and then ask that person for help after getting into a dangerous situation.

There was another scene where a teacher (as far as I remember, she had brown hair and brown eyes) who opened a window and said, 'You can come and join my class any time you want.' the strange thing was that Pippi never joined the teacher`s class. If Pippi was a very enthusiastic child, why would she want to miss out on opportunities to do EDUCATIONAL THINGS?

When Pippi joined a different school, it was the only time when she changed her hairstyle. I was VERY PUZZLED when Pippi drew a picture of a cow on the floor with chalk. When the teacher of this school saw what Pippi had done, she told Pippi to look out of the window at someting (I can`t remember what it was) and think about how to behave apporpriately. It was so weird for Pippi to want to do a drawing on the floor of the school.

Finally, there was one more scene which really confused me. It was when there was a fire in a house and there were these two children (I can`t remember their names) standing by the window, but refusing to jump onto the life net that was being held by the fire brigade down below. It was Pippi who managed to rescue them. She did it by balancing on a rope and slowly walking along the rope until she approached the two children and carried them both out. It was BRAVE of Pippi Longstocking to do this, but the other two children SHOULD have been brave themselves and jumped. After all, the fire brigade has the job of making sure that people are safe, and the life net is used to save people`s lives. This scene was so confusing. I don`t know why it had to end up like this.

Finally, the beginning and end of the film are done with drawings, not real people. But the interesting thing is that the drawings TURN INTO the real people! At the beginning, the drawing of the ship turns into a real ship. At the end, the real Pippi turns into a drawing! It`s so amazing how drawings can be made to look so much like real things! This is one of the better features of this film. BUT, nevertheless, this film has still FAILED to become good; ALL because of the problems I described earlier in this review.
