The Muppet Movie is the kind of film that makes us late 80's and early 90's people wish that we were born in the 70's. I was born in 1991, and I'm always sad when I think of how the Muppets creator, Jim Henson, died in 1990, one year earlier than my time. Anyone who's never heard of the Muppets: ought to.
At least, you should know about Kermitt the Frog. The film takes place at a movie theater, where the Muppets gather to watch the movie about how they all met. Kermitt the Frog lives in a swamp, and there he plays his banjo while singing "Rainbow Connection". But then a fisherman tells him about Hollywood, and Kermitt decides to go there. Along the way, he teams up with Fozzie Bear, and then eventually meeting Gonzo(who is revealed to be an alien in a later movie) and Miss Piggy, who's absolutely smitten when she sees Kermitt. But Kermitt is also hunted by Doc Hopper, who wants Kermitt to help advertise for Hopper's restaurant that sells frog legs. So Kermitt and friends recruit many Muppets and go on a quest to become movie stars, while avoiding Doc Hopper along the way...
You ought to see The Muppet Movie if you've never heard of the Muppets. And if you fall in love with it, I also reccommend their other films: The Great Muppet Caper, A Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Classic Theatre, and Muppets in Space(in which Gonzo discovers his alien nationality). |
