Mildred Pierce Shines
by Rick (movies profile)
Dec 5, 2005
This movie is possibly on the best examples of the
Film Noir of the 40's. From its dark settings to
its edgy screenplay. Joan Crawford (Mildred) won
her well deserved Best Actress Oscar for 1945. We
find out through flashbacks on Mildred's life the
past four years. Bruce Bennett plays Bert Pierce,
Mildred's first husband who Mildred asks him to leave after she gets fed up with him for carrying on an affair. Mildred has two daughters, Veda (Ann Blyth) and Kay. Veda is rotten to the core. Ann Blyth gives a marvelous performance as the conniving Veda. Eve Arden plays Ida (Mildred's Friend). Eve Arden gives the movie one of the best one liner's and she holds nothing back in telling Mildred on how she feels about Veda.
Zachary Scott plays Monte Beragon (Mildred's 2nd
husband). Monte Beragon is a former millionare and quite the playboy. Rounding out the cast is
Butterfly McQueen who plays Mildred's dim-witted
maid Lottie. Michael Curtiz directs this incredible piece of a movie. This movie solely
belongs to Miss Crawford since she had been in a dry spill for quite some time. This is a must see movie for Joan Crawford fans!!! |
