I had a huge problem with this movie, that I will get to in a minute. First, I am a huge Deniro fan, HUGE! I guess this was somewhat of a transitional picture for him(Yeah I know he did a dark comedy before as Rupert Pumpkin in King of Comedy)in that he had always played the serious dramatic roles. The movie has a Planes,Trains, and Automobiles feel about it without the huge laughs.
The story is about Jack Walsh a former Chicago cop, turned bounty hunter for a sleazy bail bondsman. He is giving a job to catch a"The Duke" an accountant on the run for embezzling money from a mobster. If Jack can bring him from New York to L.A. in 3 days he gets 100,000. First he has to contend with the FBI and the Mobster he once tried to bring down in Chicago. This same mobster ran him out of Chicago and away from his wife and daughter. Along the way, he meets up with his ex-wife and daughter who he has not seen in 9 years(she is not about 13) and says all of 2 words to her!!!! Thats my problem. How can you like a character(who they director wants you to like) who could give a rats A$$ about her. If at least he would have made amends with her in the end, but no nothing. Did not end on a good note, if it had maybe I would have given it a higher grade. |
