Was this before or after Casablanca? Anyway, it reunites Bogey, Sidney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre. Bogey is a perfect private eye. He sees things but doesn't let on until it's the oppertune moment. He doesn't carry a gun, but still manages to be the tough guy who others respect or fear. He's a loyal partner who goes after his partner's murderer. And, when all is said and done, he's true to himself and the law when he turns his "girlfriend" over to the cops as the murderer. Greenstreet is just a wonderful gangster. His little injections of humor and the way he laughs adds to the movie. Peter Lorre is Peter Lorre. He always adds to a movie with his presence and acting. Overall, this is a classic that can be watched over and over and enjoyed. |
