More Greenstreet and Lorre than Casablanca and a double dose of Bogie. How much better can it get? Answer: it can't get any better. The acting is fabulous and the cast is better. You actually wait for the lines the 4th time around. One classic line after another.
It's a very good story. Most of it holds together very well and the cast makes you love every moment. Sidney Greenstreet is just wonderfully fat and weird but you actually believe the character and his 18 year quest. Lorre is just as weird and maybe better. I even love Elisha Cook and Lee Patrick too. Bogie is the best. Mary Astor is good but overshadowed by Bogart, Greenstreet, and Lorre.
This is one of the top 5 movies of all time. Ok "you, you imbecile, you bloated idiot, you stupid fathead..." |
