The animation style was very weird, interesting and remarkable, mixing what seemed to be live action (but not quite) with traditional average (and might I say, mediocre) cartooning .. The wraiths, orcs and Rohirrim were amazing!... The real still backgrounds too. However, Aragorn is drawn as a native American, Boromir as a Viking, Elrond as a normal man, and Gimli is tall for a dwarf. Galadriel & Eowyn look exactly the same, and there's no sign of Eomer or Arwen.
Note : this movie ends at the battle of Helm's Deep, with Gandalf appearing with aid at last. We see Merry & Pippin with Treebeard for a moment, and Gollum leads Frodo & Sam to the Mountains, but that's it!...I read Ralph Bakshi wanted to make another movie to finish the story, but his dream never came true.
The movie sticks to the original story & there're some gripping moments .. if you're a die-hard Tolkien fan, you should watch it.
