This highly entertaining picture won Best Director and Screenplay in 1949 and deservedly so. It centers around three women who may or may not have marriages on the rocks. They receive a letter from a woman, who is only ever heard in voiceover, and who informs them that she has run off with one of their husbands. Then the movies divides into three stories, each about 30 minutes long, showing us an important scene from each of the three women's marriage. It's up to the viewer to decide which husband has run off with the woman who has written the letter. Superb, witty, intelligent entertainment! |
