Epic but leaves some needed questions unanswered

The Last Emperor is certainly worth a look just for the scenary alone but with a 2 hour and 40 minute running time, it leaves a little bit of the story unanswered. Pu Yi is the last emperor of Imperial China. However, when the outside world is now ruled by the government, the emperor is forced to become a prisoner within his own kingdom. So he must try to find a way to reach the outside world. However, when he does he soon realises the hardships he has yet to face as the emperor. The Last Emperor is an amazing story but at some points it seems that it was far too Americanised. It's painfully obvious that few or none of the Asian actors know any English and random scenes of sexuality are placed in there for almost no reason at all. It's still a good film, but a few nitpicks and much of middle leaving unanswered questions keep it from being great. |
