Gregory Peck, Vincent Price, Thomas Mitchell, Rose Stradner and a very young Roddy McDowall star in this story of a Scottish priest (Peck) who goes to China as a missionary and confronts all the problems of that society e.g., mandarins, war, poverty, sickness, a prideful nun etc. (When I was a kid and saw this film on TV, I was so impressed I wanted to go to China as a missionary too and I'm Jewish!) Peck is incredibly good and so is Thomas Mitchell as Peck's atheist doctor friend. Price, who always came across as too prissy for my taste, plays a priest sent to China to oversee the work that has been done. If you want to see a very good story with superb acting, get this film.
