This kids action/drama is a fantastic underdog story, that aims its focus to teenagers.
John Avildsen directs this film well, putting a heroic teenager into a story for once.
Daniel Luruso(Ralph Macchio) moves with his mum from New Jersey to Southern California for mother's place of work.
Daniel finds school hard, having been bullied many times already.
Although finds a crush on a girl named Ali, and this seems to be the only good thing in this new town.
A old wise karate expert and Handyman of his new housing complex Mr Miyagi(Noriyuki Morita) finds out about the bullying, and saves Daniel on one assult.
Miyagi trains Daniel Karate, to stop the attacks.
This leads to a Karate competition that daniel enters.
Defeding black belt karate champion(William Zabka) leader of his high school bullys, waits for Daniel in the competition, ready to put Luruso out of commision.
Daniel and Mr Miyagi get a close friendship as the film moves along, we find out that Miyagi uses composure and balance to win, never strength and power.
Daniel uses the nature to provale, and "wax on Wax off method" teaching him a new form of training.
Then would go on face his oppressor in the final of the Karate championship.
Although this movie's end is predictable, the true magic of this fairy tale lies in its positive portrait of one boy's transition into maturity through mastery of self.
