An enchanting, yet boring movie.

This movie was truly remarkable because Clark Gable and Ellie Andrews did a wonderful job acting. These two actors really seemed to shine in this screwball comedy. The fact that this movie goes by slowly stands for its time. The 1930s movies seem to drag on till the ending; however, it was quite funny for being over seventy years old.
I was impressed with the story, however, it didn’t really appeal to teenagers for its dullness and it being a regular love story.
There is actually some suspense in this romantic comedy though, an example being when Andrews's father hunts her down after she escapes and Gable and Colbert distract them by distracting the searchers by yelling.
From the beginning, it was misleading as to what the plot might be and how it might end up. I got so lost in all the bus rides that I forgot the plot. It was a coincidence though that Gable worked for a newspaper, and he was getting all her important information. He was with her first for her news and eventually because he seems to fall in love with her. The ending seemed too obvious that Andrews's would somehow find Gable and get married.
Overall, this movie was fare. I was surprised to see so much skin for the 30s because of the Hays Code Contract. Nonetheless, the director Frank Capra did an amazing job on this film. Capra truly did a perfect directing job on this movie as a whole. My hat goes off to Gable and Colbert for displaying so much chemistry while not actually enjoying the making of the movie. I recommend this movie to everyone who likes classic adult romantic comedies. |
