Excellent story in the "Les Miserable" mode

A terrific movie with an excellent performance by Paul Muni. The story is in the mode of "Les Miserable" of how a man is unjustly punished severely for a crime. In those days the prisoners were tied together by chains to make escape near impossible. Yet Muni obviously escapes and makes a success of his life. However, the fear with which he lives is beautifully captured in that last scene. A truly terrific film. |
