This movie came in 10th on a recent list of the greatest movies put out by a British magazine. I first caught it on AMC one lazy afternoon and couldn't stop laughing! It's true that the movie is dialogue driven, and it comes fast and furious. The rapport between Grant and Russell is a joy to watch. The numerous twists and turns of the story keep the pace going at a good clip. The direction and visuals are only a little better than watching a play. But, there are some interesting uses of shadows so I gave the visuals a better rating than direction. The acting is superb and although this is a comedy, there is a compelling moral to the story that helps give the movie substance.
I was overjoyed to finally find this movie on DVD at my local Suncoast. I highly recommend it to any fan of Cary Grant, comedy, or the classics. |
