A timeless crime classic

Akira Kurosawa broadens his horizons with detective noir High and Low and much like the majority of his films does so beautifully. Mr. Gondo is a wealthy owner of a shoe company until a man kidnaps his chauffeur's son and demands a $30 million ransom. However, when he finally gives into this demand, his reputation is completely tarnished forever and its up to the police to take vengeance by bringing the kidnapper to justice. High and Low accomplishes everything a detective story should. Gives a compelling story, has drama and suspense, and never fails to keep ones attention. It is a tad lengthy but Kurosawa manages to keep the story moving at a steady enough pace so it does get dry. Fans of noir and Kurosawa are bound to love this unsung classic. |
