1987's HELLRAISER is Rise of the Cenobites. the first of a series of 8 with a remake coming out tentatively in 2009. just like John "Jigsaw" Kramer of the SAW franchise, Pinhead himself,(leader of the Cenobites) is bound to certain rules. rules that should never be broken.
wearing black leather.... emotionless.... these Cenobites appear after a mysterious puzzle box is opened.... equipped with chains and hooks that come out of nowhere.... once summoned.... tearing their victims apart!
dark themes like incest, extramarital affairs were mentioned. but there was not enough explanations to support.
overall! expect a lot of lights extravaganza in the finale. as one-by-one, Kirsty Cotton/Ashley Laurence banishes the Cenobites. Sending them back to their realm (which was never seen). She was able to easily transport Pinhead, two Cenobites (The Female and The Chatterer), with a special participation of The Pillow Monster! (aka Engineer) this was Pinhead's first pet before the c h e e s y ! dog who appeared in part 4. one of the Cenobites though, didn't turned into a floating light bulb (Butterball). it was crushed by the falling debris. Butterball came back one year later in 1988's HELLBOUND. so i guess he's okay. |
