Hellraiser was a really good film for it's time, it's rather different for any ordinary horror film, This film was kind of simular to Wes Craven's Nightmare on Elm street, becuase you know that the killer Freddy Krueger can actualy talk and explain to you why he is who is and why he does what he does, unlike films like Friday the 13th and Halloween killers Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees are really quiet, so for example if you saw Michael or Jason standing two feet away from you , you don't know who they are, you'll probably say "dude, Halloween's over take your mask off" and you won't know what there capable of. Well in those movies people know who they are becuase of stories and news. But if you stood two feet from Freddy or Pinhead, you'd run like a chicken becuase they can talk and tell you what thy're going to do to you!
Now Hellraiser isn't simular to Nightmare on Elm street just becuase of the talking, its also becuase there both movies that are about "different dimensions" In Nightmare on Elm street if you go to sleep your in Freddy's nightmare world and he'll say some things and try to slaughter you with his claws (they're manmade claws) Well Hellraiser is quite different.
It all starts with some strange but convincing puzzle box. What you actually do with this puzzle box is that you have to solve it, but you have to know what you're doing when you solve it, becuase if you turn it the wrong way well....... Literally your screwed, becuase once it's turned the wrong way you've unlocked hell, when you think your safe from hell becuase you think hell is underground, well in this film hell is actually behind walls and in certain places,and it is actually really petrifying and your thinking "Well I hope hell isn't behind my wall" Which I think is really overreaching and outstanding for a horror film. Forget all your thoughts of what you thought was hell becuase this is WAY different and way more teriffying! |
