This movie was expertly produced and directed by
William Wyler. Olivia de Havilland gave the performance of a lifetime as the frumpish Catherine Sloper. Ralph Richardson played Catherine's cold and distant father, Dr.Austin Sloper. Miriam Hopkins played the kindly Aunt
Penniman. And the handsome, Montgomery Clift played Morris Townsend who falls in love with the
shy Catherine. Dr. Sloper does his best to keep his daughter away from Morris as he thinks he is
only after his daughters money. Ms. de Havilland earned her second Oscar for her brillant performance. The won 3 other Oscars for music score, art/set decoration and for Edith Heads gorgeous costumes. This movie stills stands up today. |
