timeless masterpiece

This, along with The Little Princess, was elegant, classic in its portrayal of a classic, and as always, Shirley enveloped/embodied the characterization of Heidi, just as she had done in the portrayal of Sarah. As I saw the movie before reading the book, it is Shirleys face that comes to mind when I think of this classic swiss tale. I love the characters. GrandFather Adolph Krammer, along with Heidi, steals the show, and wins our hearts after his innicial gruff/forboding demeanor. Though he is considered the mountain top Hermit and is feared among the villagers in Dorfi, Heidi soon melts his bitter guarded heart. Inspired by Heidi, Clara, the lonely young girl in the wheelchair, is transformed to a rose- blooming lass with the self confidance and motivation to walk again. The dark cryptic frauline Rottenmeir is conveyed with perfection,-with similar convincing, she plays a selfish, mean spenctress and proprieter of an all girls school in the Little Princess. The beloved butler, Arthur Treachor, who portrayed the butler in other Shirley movies, funny, distinguished, and enduring as ever |
