Reggae maestro Jimmy Cliff stars in the updated biopic of 1940s real-life Jamaican folk hero and infamous gunman Ivanhoe "Rhygin" Martin. This movie captures the spirit, music and culture of early 1970s Jamaica before Bob Marley became an international rasta sensation. The plot is centered around Martin who comes into Kingston from the country and quickly falls into a life of crime following a botched record deal. The climax is a spectacular re-enactment of the legendary gunfight at Lime Cay. The music is extraordinary with several selections sung by Mr. Cliff himself and the film features a wonderful studio performance by the scions of ska music, Toots and The Maytals. |
