This is definitely Woody Allen's greatest achievement in comedy movies. Directed, written, and acted brilliantly, the movie includes spectacular performances by Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Carrie Fisher, Barbara Hershey, and of course Michael Caine and Dianne Wiest, who both went on to win Academy Awards as best supporting actor and actress.
The movie's title character is undoubtedly Hannah (Mia Farrow) who plays a very famous successful actress, and on the side is also a wife, mother, and sister. Her husband, Elliot (Michael Caine, in an Oscar winning performance) is an accountant who falls for Hannah's youngest sister, Lee (Barbara Hershey) who is at the time the girlfriend of a very misanthrope and cold artist (Max Von Sydow), who doesn't treat her respectfully. Holly, the middle sister is a very worried and troubled woman, and usually filled with a lot of anxiety. Hannah also has an ex-husband, Mickey (Woody Allen), who is scared when he finds out he has a brain tumor and believes he is going to die. Mickey, nevertheless is the father of Hannah's two twin children, and is still part of her family.
This is a fun movie for people of all ages, although some children will not understand or appreciate some of the humor. I recommend it to young adults, and I also recommend it to adults too! "Hannah and Her Sisters" is definitely a movie that should not be missed.
