A classic film on the life of Christ
by moviefreak (movies profile) Apr 23, 2008
This is one of the greatest biblical films ever produced. For me, it comes in a close second to 1977's "Jesus of Nazareth." It gives the viewer an in-depth look at the life and ministry of Jesus, culminating in his trial, crucifixion, and resurrection. Max von Sydow, a Swedish actor, made his American film debut in the role of Jesus. Through his performance, Sydow makes you feel all the heartache Jesus must have felt as He looked around and saw the sinful condition that many people around him were in. He brings a humanity and compassion to this role that, I'm sad to say, is sorely lacking in a lot of other portrayals. My favorite scene in the entire film is when Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. When I saw Lazarus come out of that tomb, I thought it was one of the most spectacular things I had ever seen.

Most critics that have reviewed this movie, said that they were distracted by all the star cameos by such actors as Charlton Heston, Jose Ferrer, Telly Savalas, and, as the centurion... John Wayne. This viewer, however, was not distracted at all. I thought it to be a well-done, powerful version of the life of Jesus.
