I enjoyed the book, and the movie does hit some of the themes well (maybe a little too obviously, though), this movie was seriously lacking in some areas. The music every time Gatsby looks at the green light on Daisy's dock just about makes me want to strangle the director, and Daisy just isn't having her brightest day. I did like the contrast the director makes a point of between Tom and Myrtle's relationship and Daisy and Gatsby's relationship and the costumes and colors are wonderful. But this movie should never be anyone's standard for Fitzgerald's work. |
