This film would struggle to be released nowadays, as it breaks every social conformity through laughing at the fat, the deformed, and the foreign. But it does it in an innocent light hearted way and is pretty much a hybrid of stand by me and pirates of the caribbean.
It is unavoidable to not laugh at Chunk and his strange and often riciulous lines.
Mikey : More amazing than the time Michael Jackson come over to your house to use the bathroom.
Brandon Walsh : More amazing than the time you saved those old people from that nursing home fire, right?
Mouth : Yeah, and I bet it was even more amazing than the time you ate your weight in Godfather's pizza, right?
Chunk : Okay, Brand. Michael Jackson didn't come over to my house to use the bathroom. But his sister did.
It is the classic story of good v evil, featuring cute kid actors who can, suprisingly, act.
The film does try to get a little sentimental on us when the kids are at the bottom of a wishing well, Corey Feldmans character, Mouth, starts picking up the coins claiming "these are my wishes, my dreams, and they didnt come true. Im taking them back, im taking them all back" well acted, awfull awfull line!
The only people i would deter from seeing this films are the sort who are scared of wierdy old fashioned things. I am one of these people, (and at the ripe old age of 18, am still not able to sit through the wizard of oz) but i managed to watch the film without getting creeped out. much. |
