This is the Bond movie everyone seems to know. Even people who haven't seen Goldfinger know who Oddjob is and his killer derby. Everyone knows about the laser scene. Every one has heard Shirley Bassey belt out the title song. Everyone knows the, "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die," line. Everyone knows about the gold painted girl. And of course, everyone knows the name Pu*sy Galore. That's the legacy of this one movie: it has so many hallmarks, for those who haven't even seen a Bond movie, they don't even know that all of the hallmarks they know from the entire series come from only one movie: Goldfinger. It is the first film from the Bond series that allowed a more light-hearted tone with out compromising the sense of imperative danger and espionage of Fleming (unlike Roger Moore's more campy take on the character). Goldfinger may not resonate as much as On Her Majesty's Secret Service or be as thrilling as From Russia with Love, but it established the entertainment value that Bond fans would come to expect with each successive installment. It's something of a 'Gold Standard' for Bond fans, and therefore, it's the definitive installment.
